Soss Attends NMHP
This weekend soss adoption coordinator, Melissa, is attending the No More Homeless Pets conference hosted by the Best Friends Animal Society.
The conference is a great opportunity to learn about the best practices in animal rescue. The conference started off with a great workshop about cat adoptions (is there anything more difficult?). The workshops are great. One piece of advice was to make the adoption form multiple choice to keep people from trying to tell you what you want to hear.
In the evening Melissa stopped by the tweet-up and got to put faces to our hastag heroes. If you don’t follow us on twitter check us out @sossrescue.
As we look forward to the next 2 days of the conference we are excited about what we can learn and the support we can find here. It is clear that all of the people here care deeply about animals, coming together like this helps make the support in the community visible. Thank you Best friends for putting this conference together and providing a partial sponsorship for our rescue.
For all the Awesome Animal Rescuers!
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.
I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today.

Happy NEW home for Gatzby

This beautiful Himalayan, was with us for over a year before he finally found his forever home. Vespers, now know as Gatzby was rescued by us through a Vet Tech who saved him from being euthanized by adult children of the owner who had to be placed in assisted living home. October Chill

Happy October Everyone. Valentine and all her pals are enjoying the cooler nights. The days are still nice and warm filled with sunshine. We are gearing up for winter, lots of work to do before our reptiles who hibernate. As well as all of our other animals who don’t sleep through our chilly season. If anyone would like to volunteer please contact Melissa at sossrescue@gmail.com
Indian Summer Swim with Valentine

September and Valentine is now 18 months old now. She is really enjoying her new life with our Founder Regene and her Husband Chuck. As you can see that she is really Chuck’s Valentine. Although Valentine doesn’t really swim, she enjoys floating around in the pool. Of course she has her safety life vest that makes this possible. All of us as Sounds of Silent Spirits wants to thank all you support Valentine and our rescue efforts for all animals in need.
walking your dog in hot weather
I am often dumbfounded when I see well intentioned folks walking their beloved dogs in hot weather. Not only can they put their dog at high risk of a heart attack, they can literally burn the pads on their paws. So, what I kindly tell folks is if you can’t walk on the asphalt or concrete in your bare feet, neither can your doggie.
